Arsenal face Alex Scott transfer battle as Chelsea take lead after rejected summer bids

Arsenal face renewed competition for Alex Scott, with Chelsea reportedly leading the pursuit of the Bournemouth midfielder following his first England start.

Matt Law’s Telegraph report, syndicated by Yahoo Sports, places Chelsea ahead of the other interested clubs after Bournemouth rejected multiple offers during the summer.

Liverpool and Arsenal are also named among Scott’s admirers, although the latest development does not establish that the Gunners have submitted a new bid.

Arsenal have already tested Bournemouth’s stance

Arsenal’s interest has a documented history. In June, Bournemouth rejected an enquiry from the Gunners, with Sami Mokbel reporting for BBC Sport that the south-coast club wanted to retain Scott and extend his contract.

The midfielder subsequently turned down a new contract proposal, as covered in our July reporting.

Those developments explain Arsenal’s place in the conversation. They should not, however, be mistaken for evidence of fresh negotiations this autumn.

Alex Scott contract puts next summer in focus

According to talkSPORT’s account of the latest transfer picture, Bournemouth remain opposed to a January sale.

Scott would enter the final year of his existing deal next summer, making the outcome of contract talks significant for interested clubs.

For Arsenal, that creates a decision over whether to revive their pursuit. A shorter remaining contract could strengthen a buyer’s negotiating position, but competition from Chelsea and Liverpool would work in the opposite direction.

The next meaningful development for Gunners supporters would be evidence of another approach. For now, the fresh report puts Chelsea in the strongest position.
