Arsenal reportedly had a €65million offer, approximately £55m, for Jarell Quansah rejected by Bayer Leverkusen in August.
BILD reports that the Gunners made an unsuccessful summer approach for the England defender, who remains under contract until 2030.
The report also identifies Real Madrid as admirers, adding another prominent club to the list following his progress.
Jarell Quansah Arsenal bid adds detail to summer search
According to TEAMtalk’s account of the German report, Arsenal went beyond monitoring Quansah and submitted a formal proposal.
The centre-back also offers cover at right-back, giving him the versatility to address two positions.
Arsenal ultimately recruited Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa during a summer in which William Saliba’s back injury created a significant defensive concern.
That context helps explain the appeal of another defender comfortable in both roles. Our analysis of Arsenal’s defence without Saliba examines the selection demands facing Mikel Arteta.
Real Madrid interest adds another complication
BILD says Madrid have been watching Quansah closely, while Chelsea have also made an enquiry.
Liverpool retain a reported €70m option to bring their former defender back next summer, giving his old club a potential route into any future contest.
The August offer does not establish that Arsenal will return in January, particularly following Konsa’s arrival.
It does, however, add a substantial name and fee to the picture of their summer recruitment. Alongside the latest reporting on Arsenal’s interest in Kevin Schade, it illustrates why the timing of each transfer claim matters.
