Arsenal’s Nwaneri loan drama revealed as Dortmund chief made decisive 2.30am call

Ethan Nwaneri’s loan move from Arsenal to Borussia Dortmund reportedly required a breakthrough at 2.30am German time as sporting director Ole Book pushed to complete the deal.

According to Sport Bild’s account, relayed by Bulinews, Book called Dortmund executive Lars Ricken in the early hours to tell him an agreement had been reached.

The report says Ricken had already gone home while Book continued working on the move.

Ethan Nwaneri Dortmund loan gets fresh context

The new detail concerns the negotiations behind Nwaneri’s existing loan, rather than a further transfer.

Read Arsenal has already examined how Nwaneri’s early Dortmund opportunities could benefit his development.

For Arsenal, the important question now is how those opportunities translate into progress over the season.

Regular involvement can give a young attacker chances to build consistency, recover from difficult performances and learn different tactical demands.

Dortmund’s reported persistence offers an encouraging indication of how strongly they wanted him. However, the success of the move will ultimately depend on his football, rather than the dramatic negotiations that took him there.
