Julian Alvarez rejects Arsenal move after dramatic transfer twist

Julian Alvarez has rejected the chance to join Arsenal after deciding he does not want to return to England, according to a major new report from Spain.

The Gunners had emerged as Atletico Madrid’s most realistic negotiating partner after the Spanish club categorically ruled out selling Alvarez to Barcelona.

However, Arsenal’s pursuit has now suffered a potentially decisive setback.

Julian Alvarez rejects Arsenal approach

Cadena SER reports that Alvarez has rejected Arsenal’s advances because he does not want to return to the Premier League.

Manchester City also explored bringing the Argentina international back to the club but received the same response before they could make a formal offer.

The development represents a dramatic change from only a day earlier.

ReadArsenal reported on Friday that Alvarez had discussed Arsenal during a five-hour meeting over his future.

Sky Sports subsequently reported that Atletico wanted Alvarez to decide whether to remain in Madrid or open himself to an Arsenal move by Sunday.

The situation now appears considerably less encouraging for Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta.

Alvarez continues to favour Barcelona, but Atletico have publicly insisted they will not negotiate with their La Liga rivals. Arsenal had hoped that stance could create an opportunity after previously seeing Barcelona’s pursuit of Alvarez blocked.

Cadena SER’s latest information suggests the player himself is now the biggest obstacle.

Alvarez returned to individual training with Atletico after missing two days through illness, although he will not be involved against Sevilla.

Unless the 26-year-old changes his position during the closing days of the window, Arsenal will have to consider alternative attacking options.
