Jack Hinshelwood has emerged as a serious Arsenal transfer target after the Gunners reportedly made direct contact over a move for the Brighton midfielder.
The Gunners are now leading the race for the Brighton midfielder and have made direct contact with his representatives, according to SunSport.
Arsenal are reportedly preparing an official offer, although Manchester United have also made enquiries over the England Under-21 international.
Brighton would prefer to keep their academy graduate, but an offer between £43million and £51m could reportedly persuade them to consider a sale.
Arsenal make Jack Hinshelwood transfer move
Hinshelwood’s versatility appears to be a major part of Arsenal’s interest.
The 21-year-old can operate centrally in midfield, as a holding player and at either full-back, giving Arteta another player capable of filling several positions.
That flexibility could be particularly useful after Arsenal entered the final weeks of the window with defensive fitness concerns.
The Gunners have already intensified their search for reinforcements, with ReadArsenal reporting that talks are under way over Bayer Leverkusen defender Jarell Quansah.
Hinshelwood would represent a different profile.
Rather than being primarily a centre-back, the Brighton youngster could provide Arteta with another midfield option while also covering the areas Arsenal have been forced to manage carefully during pre-season.
Manchester United’s interest adds another complication.
SunSport report the Old Trafford club have made official enquiries over Hinshelwood’s availability, while Manchester City have also monitored his situation.
Brighton’s negotiating position remains strong because Hinshelwood still has three years remaining on his contract.
Arsenal have therefore not reached an agreement, and there is no indication yet that an official bid has been submitted.
However, direct contact with the player’s representatives marks a more significant step than simple monitoring.
With Arsenal already active on several fronts before the transfer window closes, Hinshelwood has now become another name worth watching closely.
