Arsenal boss Slegers explains Paris absence after late collapse

Arsenal boss Renée Slegers has apologised for missing her press conference after the Paris FC draw, explaining that she chose to spend time with her players.

Speaking before Sunday’s Manchester City match, Slegers addressed Wednesday’s absence after Arsenal surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2.

In comments reported by Arseblog’s Tim Stillman, she said: “I made the decision to be with the team instead.”

Assistant Aaron D’Antino handled the post-match media duties, as covered in our initial report on Slegers’ absence in Paris.

Slegers acknowledged that speaking to the media forms part of her responsibilities, but felt connecting with the squad was important at that moment.

Asked whether her anger had been directed towards the players, she replied: “Never the players.”

Instead, she described frustration at Arsenal allowing a promising position to slip away. She also accepted the team’s responsibility for letting Paris back into the match.

Slegers praised her captains’ response and leadership, saying the group remained focused on finding solutions.

Arsenal face Manchester City response test

The immediate opportunity comes at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, with kick-off at 4.30pm BST.

As our Manchester City–Arsenal Women preview explains, Arsenal sit seven points behind the leaders. Victory would cut that gap to four; defeat would extend it to 10.

Slegers has now explained her decision in Paris. Sunday offers the chance to turn that collective response into a result.
