Arsenal youngster Max Dowman has withdrawn from England’s Under-19 squad through injury, with no recovery timetable provided in the FA’s announcement.
England confirmed his withdrawal on Sunday morning, before the Young Lions completed their international programme against Belgium on Monday.
The official squad update stated: “Max Dowman has withdrawn from the England MU19s squad due to injury.”
When will Dowman be back?
The announcement did not identify the injury or explain when it occurred. It therefore remains unclear whether Dowman will be available when Arsenal return to Premier League action against Leeds on Saturday.
Dowman’s involvement with England had attracted attention earlier in the window following reports that Thomas Tuchel was considering inviting him to train with the senior squad. That was a reported possibility rather than a confirmed senior call-up.
Without Dowman, England’s Under-19s lost 1-0 to Belgium in Marbella, conceding in the 90th minute after winning their previous three matches during the window.
Arsenal teammate Ifeoluwa Ibrahim started and played 58 minutes.
Dowman is not the only Arsenal player to have left an England squad with a fitness problem. Ezri Konsa withdrew from the senior group on Monday, although his situation is separate from the youngster’s unspecified injury.
Mikel Arteta’s side host Leeds at 12.30pm on Saturday before facing Lille in the Champions League three days later.
