Arsenal: Henry on Tzolis’s away form

Thierry Henry has given a detailed verdict on Christos Tzolis, according to a Betway interview reproduced by Tribuna. The Arsenal legend praised the winger’s all-round game, but flagged Tzolis away form as the one area still catching up with the rest of it.

Henry has watched Tzolis for years, long before his move into the Premier League. That history gives Henry’s verdict an extra angle for supporters to find out exactly who they have signed and at Betway you can see how the Gunners are rated for the season.

Henry knows Tzolis from his time in Belgium

According to the interview reproduced by Tribuna, he explained exactly why the winger has impressed him.

“Yes, I’ve been following him for a long time since he was playing for Club Brugge. He’s a very neat team player, he works hard, he’s not shy to be on the ball, he has an eye for a pass, and when he cuts back inside he can he can give you a couple of assists, as we’ve seen already. He hit the ground running straight away.”

Henry singles out work rate, composure on the ball, and the cut-inside movement that has already produced results. Henry described a similar approach for Arsenal under Mikel Arteta in our Henry-Arteta piece, where the Frenchman weighed in on what’s happening at Arsenal under Arteta.

Henry’s history with Tzolis matters as well for the praise. He first noticed the winger at Club Brugge, and hsi time with the Belgium national setup, going through the Belgian league at that time adds an intersting layer to his take on Tzolis, according to the reproduced Henry interview.

Can Tzolis away form be improved?

Asked where Tzolis still needs to improve, he did not hesitate.

“You can see that he’s still struggling away from home. He has to understand what’s happening when you play the away in the Premier League, especially as we saw in that Villa game. But that’s normal. Overall, I think he has done well.”

Away trips in the Premier League test a winger differently to home games. Crowds are hostile, spaces are tighter, and opponents often sit deeper and press harder than they would at home.

Tzolis away form, in Henry’s telling, is the one gap between a promising start and a complete one. That contrast between comfort at home and difficulty on the road has also surfaced in the original report, which carried Tzolis’s own reaction to a recent Arsenal match.

Henry did not say Tzolis lacks quality on the road, only that he has to “understand what’s happening” once the setting changes. However, those tend to resolve with games played rather than with a change in approach.

What’s next for Tzolis and Henry

None of this amounts to an alarm bell. Henry’s overall message was clear. Tzolis has done well, and the away-day issue is “normal” for a player adjusting to a new league.

Henry has been a regular voice on Arsenal matters this season. Earlier this year he offered his message to Arsenal fans, and more recently he issued his response to a separate story about the club that had been circulating.

What makes the comments useful to supporters is the balance in them. A pundit with less knowledge of Tzolis might have reached for a blanket verdict, good or bad. Henry instead separates what the winger already does well from the one habit he still needs to shake off.

The question now is whether Tzolis closes that gap quickly enough for it to stop being a talking point, or whether away form becomes the defining storyline of his first Arsenal season. Supporters watching his next trip on the road will have Henry’s words in mind.
