Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres scored for the third successive Sweden match on Friday, continuing his productive international break in a 1-1 draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The forward struck after the hour in Zenica, adding to his goals against Romania and Poland.
His latest finish gives Mikel Arteta another reminder of his scoring ability before Arsenal resume their Premier League campaign against Leeds United.
Gyokeres Sweden goal follows earlier VAR frustration
As Swedish broadcaster SVT reports, Alexander Bernhardsson released Gyokeres, who drove forward and powered his shot home.
The Arsenal striker had already seen a first-half effort disallowed following a VAR review for handball.
This time the goal stood, although Sweden could not protect their advantage. Kerim Alajbegovic equalised with around 10 minutes remaining to secure a point for the hosts.
Three goals strengthen Arsenal selection case
Opta’s international match log records Gyokeres’ earlier goals in Sweden’s 2-1 victory over Romania and 3-1 win against Poland.
Friday’s strike extends that sequence after he had also played down fitness concerns following the Poland match.
His club opportunities have been more limited. Opta records 29 Premier League minutes across two substitute appearances this season.
That contrast adds weight to the selection discussion covered in our analysis of Gyokeres’ case to face Leeds.
International goals do not guarantee an Arsenal start. They do mean Gyokeres is producing a timely response when Sweden give him the opportunity.
