Ezri Konsa was named on England’s bench against Czechia on Tuesday after concerns over the Arsenal defender’s fitness.
Thomas Tuchel selected Trevoh Chalobah alongside Marc Guehi in central defence, with Konsa among the substitutes for the Nations League fixture in Prague.
The selection provided an update after Konsa trained separately from his England teammates on Monday, having completed the previous match against Spain.
Konsa makes England bench
England’s official team announcement confirmed Konsa’s inclusion in the matchday squad.
Chalobah was one of four players brought into the starting line-up, alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold, Lewis Hall and Morgan Rogers.
For Arsenal, Konsa’s presence among the substitutes offered a more encouraging sign than being ruled out altogether. However, making the bench does not establish that the concern which disrupted his preparation has fully cleared.
The distinction matters after Monday’s individual training programme left supporters waiting for clarity over his availability.
Arsenal await next fitness update
Konsa’s situation remains one to follow as Mikel Arteta prepares for the return of club football.
The immediate development is that the defender remained available for selection in England’s matchday squad, even though Tuchel changed his starting partnership.
Any further explanation from the England manager will help establish whether Konsa can return to his usual workload.
