Bukayo Saka received a blunt assessment after England’s 2-0 victory over Czechia, with The Standard awarding the Arsenal winger just 5/10.
Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane scored in Prague, but Saka struggled to make a decisive contribution before Rio Ngumoha replaced him after 71 minutes.
Bukayo Saka England rating highlights difficult evening
Writing in The Standard’s England player ratings, reporter Dom Smith highlighted a missed first-half opportunity.
He said Saka “didn’t have one of his better games in an England shirt”.
Gordon received 8/10, the highest mark in the same assessment, after scoring England’s opener.
The verdict contrasted with the 7/10 rating Saka received from Express Sport against Spain. Those scores came from different publications, but they illustrate the contrasting reactions to his two performances.
Arsenal teammates receive more positive assessments
The Standard awarded Myles Lewis-Skelly 6/10 and Eberechi Eze 7/10 after the latter came on at half-time.
Eze drew praise for his lively contribution and an effort that forced a save.
For Saka, the immediate task is to produce a sharper attacking display when his next opportunity arrives.
The critical rating is one reporter’s assessment of Tuesday’s performance. It does not establish that Thomas Tuchel intends to remove him from England’s starting side.
