Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori remained an unused substitute as Italy beat Turkey 4-1 in the Nations League on Monday.
Roberto Mancini made eight changes following the defeat to Belgium, replacing his entire starting back four for the trip to Bursa.
Calafiori had started the previous match at left-back, a development explored in our analysis of his changing Italy role.
Riccardo Calafiori sits out Italy victory
The Italian federation’s official report confirms that Matteo Ruggeri started at left-back.
Michael Kayode occupied the opposite flank, with Alessandro Bastoni and Giorgio Scalvini forming the central defensive partnership.
Bastoni, Davide Frattesi and debutant Kayode put Italy three goals ahead before half-time. Francesco Pio Esposito added the fourth after Turkey pulled one back.
Mancini used all five substitutions without introducing Calafiori.
What the selection means for Arsenal
The immediate consequence for Arsenal is straightforward: Calafiori added no match minutes to his international workload on Monday.
His omission came within a much wider reshuffle. The team sheet alone does not establish an injury concern or confirm that Mancini specifically rested him.
For Italy, the convincing result gives Mancini further defensive options to consider. For Calafiori, the next selection will show whether he returns to the starting side.
Arsenal’s domestic programme resumes against Leeds on 10 October, beginning the next five-fixture run across the Premier League and Champions League.
