Cesc Fabregas has a release clause in his Como contract.
It could let him leave the Serie A club for Arsenal, Chelsea or Barcelona at a cut-price or symbolic fee, according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
The report, relayed by Football London, centres on a Cesc Fabregas Arsenal contract clause that would only apply if one of those three clubs made an approach.
Neither Como, Fabregas nor any of the three clubs have elaborated on the claim.
Di Marzio is one of Italian football’s most followed transfer reporters.
He names Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona as the three clubs covered by the clause. Those are the sides most closely associated with Fabregas from his playing career.
Football London’s coverage treats the story as informed reporting rather than confirmation as you would expect.
No precise fee, contract length or release figure has been disclosed.
Arsenal reality
Mikel Arteta remains Arsenal’s manager.
Nothing in Di Marzio’s report points to any approach for Fabregas as a coach. The story matters mainly because of the Cesc Fabregas Arsenal contract clause itself, and because of the Catalan’s standing as a former Arsenal captain who left the club for Barcelona before a later move to Chelsea.
Fabregas is now focused on his own progress as a head coach. He has guided Como in Serie A since taking charge of the club.
His approach has drawn attention in England too, including after he gave a blunt assessment of Arsenal’s academy talent, detailed in our report on Fabregas comments on Max Dowman.
The clubs already met this year. Arsenal hosted the Italian side for a pre-season friendly, covered in our reports on the Emirates return with Como and the Arsenal pre-season test against Como.
Nothing is likely to happen anytime soon. Arteta and Fabregas are doing a fine job at Arsenal and Como, respectively.
There is no indicated timetable for any of the three clubs to test the reported clause and Di Marzio’s report does not suggest talks are underway.
