Arsenal have received another encouraging Jurrien Timber fitness update after the defender returned to international action for the Netherlands.
Timber was introduced in the 80th minute of Sunday’s 2-1 Nations League victory over Serbia, replacing Denzel Dumfries as the Dutch protected their advantage in Belgrade.
It was a significant step after Timber had been left out of the Netherlands matchday squad against Germany earlier in the international break.
Read Arsenal previously reported how the Netherlands were carefully managing Timber’s workload following his recent return from a troublesome groin problem.
Timber gets valuable Netherlands minutes
Timber completed the closing stages as Mexx Meerdink’s two goals secured Xavi Hernandez’s first victory as Netherlands head coach.
Sporting Life’s match commentary confirms Timber replaced Dumfries after 80 minutes.
The Arsenal defender was also booked five minutes later.
Most importantly for Mikel Arteta, Timber has now been able to return to international action without an immediate fresh fitness setback being reported.
His minutes remain carefully controlled after spending several months sidelined, with Arteta previously confirming Arsenal were deliberately managing Timber following his injury return.
Timber remains with the Netherlands for upcoming Nations League fixtures against Greece and Serbia, which should provide further evidence of his readiness ahead of Arsenal’s return to Premier League action.
