Viktor Gyokeres has made his position at Arsenal clear after speculation surrounding his future during the summer transfer window.
The Sweden international has struggled for regular minutes under Mikel Arteta this season, having previously endured a difficult night in Arsenal’s Champions League win over Napoli.
However, Gyokeres has now insisted there was never any serious doubt in his own mind about remaining in north London.
Speaking directly to SVT Sport, Gyokeres said: “For me, staying was a given. I’m extremely happy at the club.”
Gyokeres addresses Arsenal exit speculation
The 28-year-old admitted there had been considerable outside speculation over his situation but explained that his focus remained on Arsenal throughout pre-season.
He added that limited game time has been frustrating because he wants to be on the pitch contributing and scoring goals.
That frustration has been evident during the opening weeks of the campaign.
Gyokeres has found himself competing with Kai Havertz for opportunities, while his difficult nine-touch display against Napoli highlighted the challenge of establishing himself in Arteta’s attack.
His situation could now change.
Havertz has returned to Arsenal after suffering a muscle problem with Germany, with the latest Kai Havertz injury update leaving uncertainty over his availability after the international break.
Gyokeres has therefore delivered a timely reminder that, despite the speculation and lack of minutes, his commitment to Arsenal has not changed.
