Viktor Gyokeres Admits Arsenal Playing Time Frustration
Viktor Gyokeres Arsenal frustration is out in the open. The striker admitted in an interview with Swedish outlet SVT that his lack of playing time this season has been difficult, speaking after scoring the winner for Sweden against Romania in a 2-1 victory.
According to SVT, Gyokeres said adjusting to a squad role rather than a guaranteed starting spot has not been easy. “Of course it’s frustrating, no matter where it is,” he told the outlet. “You always want to be on the field and contribute, score goals.”
The 28-year-old has had fewer starts than many expected since his move, with Mikel Arteta rotating his forward options through the opening weeks. Gyokeres said he is trying to stay patient with the situation. “It can be frustrating sometimes but I just try to do my best when I get the chance and focus on what I can control,” he said.
Sweden International Outlines Transfer Speculation Stance
The Viktor Gyokeres Arsenal bond survived a summer of speculation, including earlier reports of transfer interest from clubs in Italy. He was clear, though, that leaving the Emirates Stadium was never something he considered.
“Of course there was a lot of speculation. But I had a whole pre-season and it felt good,” he told SVT. “I was fully focused on Arsenal. For me, staying was a given. I feel extremely comfortable at the club.”
Gyokeres also looked back on his first season in north London with pride, pointing to the title Arsenal won after a long wait. “It felt good last season, we won the league and we did well in all the other tournaments too. Of course we could have won some more titles, but of course it’s acceptable after 22 years of waiting to win the Premier League,” he said.
Kai Havertz Injury Opens Door in Arsenal Attack
Gyokeres’ comments land at a notable moment for Arsenal’s attack. Kai Havertz has sustained a muscle strain while on duty with Germany and has already left the national team’s squad during this international break.
Havertz has shared the central striking role with Gyokeres for large spells of the season, so his absence puts extra focus on the competition the Swede has been open about. It also comes shortly after team-mate Viktor Johansson offered an international teammate defence of the striker amid scrutiny over his early-season form.
Upcoming Timeline for Gyokeres and Arsenal Ahead of Return
Sweden’s international fixtures continue before players return to their clubs for the next round of Premier League matches. Gyokeres is due back in training with Arsenal once his country’s commitments are finished.
Arteta and his coaching staff will then assess the squad, including how Havertz is recovering from his strain, before settling on selection for the games ahead. For now, Gyokeres’ focus stays on repaying the commitment he described to SVT during a testing start to his season.
