Myles Lewis-Skelly marked his 20th birthday by starting in central midfield for England during Saturday night’s 3-2 Nations League defeat to Spain.
The Arsenal youngster had only been considered a contender beforehand, as Read Arsenal explained in our England team-news preview, but Thomas Tuchel ultimately trusted him alongside Elliot Anderson at Wembley.
Lewis-Skelly completed 70 minutes before James Garner replaced him.

The assignment represented another significant step in the academy graduate’s rapid senior development.
England’s official profile lists Lewis-Skelly as capable of playing in both defence and midfield, while UEFA also classifies the Arsenal youngster as a midfielder.
Against Spain, he was asked to operate centrally rather than in the left-back role most associated with his Arsenal breakthrough.
The confirmed match timeline shows Lewis-Skelly remained on the pitch until the 70th minute as England surrendered a 2-1 half-time lead.
Bukayo Saka and Ezri Konsa also started, with Saka earning praise despite the defeat in our latest Arsenal international reaction.
Lewis-Skelly now has another senior England start to his name — and one achieved in his natural midfield role on the day he turned 20.
