Jurrien Timber Left Out of Netherlands Squad to Manage Fitness

Jurrien Timber Left Out of Netherlands Squad for Germany Match

Jurrien Timber will watch the Netherlands’ Nations League match against Germany from the stands. The Arsenal defender has been left out of the 23-man matchday squad as coaching and medical staff manage his workload. This Jurrien Timber injury update follows his recovery from a groin injury that forced him out of the World Cup.

Timber is not the only absentee. Kenneth Taylor and Gjivai Zechiel were also left out of the squad named for the Germany fixture. Their omissions came alongside Timber’s, though the club and country have framed his case specifically as a workload decision rather than a fresh setback.

Dutch Head Coach Xavi and Medical Staff Manage Defender Workload

Netherlands head coach Xavi addressed the decision directly in a press conference, confirming that his condition must be carefully managed rather than ignored. His comments made clear this is a precaution, not a new injury.

Medical staff from Arsenal and the Dutch national team spoke before the international break to agree on how Timber’s workload should be handled. That dialogue shaped the decision to keep him out of contention for the Germany game, with both parties prioritising his long-term fitness over a single international outing.

Arsenal Minutes and Training Regimen Highlight Careful Fitness Plan

Timber’s recent club schedule shows the gradual approach Arsenal have taken. He played 45 minutes off the bench against Sunderland before earning his first start since 14 March in the club’s 3-0 defeat to Brighton, where he lasted 60 minutes.

His training load has been managed just as carefully. Timber followed an individual programme and used the exercise bike on Monday and Tuesday before rejoining full group training on Wednesday. That staggered build-up mirrors the caution Arsenal have shown with other squad members during international break fitness calls this month.

Upcoming Recovery Timeline and Arsenal Return Context

Timber has previously explained just how demanding his recovery has been. “Calling it a relapse is too harsh. You know, I was injured for a total of 25 weeks before and after the World Cup. To be honest, I only felt good during that week of the Champions League final. It was a miracle [that I played],” he said.

He also described the physical limits he was working under during that period. “From the outside, it all looked good [that he made the Champions League final]. But I felt I couldn’t go all out. You can get away with that in training, not in a match.”

Missing the World Cup with the Netherlands weighed heavily on him too. “Leaving my brother and those other guys behind really hit hard,” he said, before explaining the short break that followed. “It was for just a few days. I had worked hard for two months to get fit again and make it to the Champions League final, and I had hardly any days off. After dropping out of the World Cup, I noticed that I needed to do nothing for a while, also to recover from the disappointment.”

No return date for Arsenal has been set beyond the training and squad details confirmed so far, according to a Football.London report. For now, the priority for both club and country remains managing his workload with care rather than rushing him back.
