Arsenal Hand Emily Fox New Three-Year Contract

Arsenal Women have secured the long-term future of Emily Fox after the United States defender signed a new contract with the club.

Arsenal officially confirmed Fox’s extension on Thursday, with reports indicating the right-back has agreed fresh terms running for another three years.

The agreement removes one potential contract concern for Renée Slegers and keeps one of Arsenal’s most reliable performers in north London as the club attempts to compete for the Women’s Super League title and major European honours.

It also arrives at an important point in the season, with Arsenal preparing for Sunday’s WSL trip to Chelsea after an unbeaten but inconsistent opening three league matches.

Emily Fox explains Arsenal contract decision

Fox joined Arsenal from North Carolina Courage in January 2024 and quickly established herself as a first-choice player.

She has since made 93 appearances in all competitions and scored three goals, while helping Arsenal win major honours including the Women’s Champions League.

Speaking to Sky Sports after signing her new deal, Fox made clear how straightforward the decision felt.

“It was easy – I love the club.”

The 28-year-old also spoke about Arsenal providing the competitive environment she wants as she continues trying to improve.

That consistency has been evident again this season.

Fox has featured throughout Arsenal’s opening WSL fixtures and earned a seven in our Arsenal Women player ratings against Manchester United after providing another dependable performance from right-back.

Fox gives Slegers stability before Chelsea

Securing Fox’s future is particularly valuable given the amount of change Arsenal Women have experienced around the squad.

Slegers already has several availability issues to manage, with our rolling Arsenal Women injury news tracker covering the latest situations involving Daphne van Domselaar, Katie Reid, Michelle Agyemang and Élisa de Almeida.

Fox offers the opposite: reliability and continuity.

Her ability to contribute both defensively and in possession has made her one of the most trusted players in Slegers’ system.

That will matter against Chelsea.

Read Arsenal has already identified three problems Arsenal Women need to solve before visiting Stamford Bridge, with greater efficiency and better balance among the main priorities.

Fox’s availability on the right gives Slegers at least one area of certainty heading into the derby.

Arsenal secure another cornerstone player

Fox’s contract is about more than avoiding the risk of losing an established international.

It keeps a player who has become central to the way Arsenal operate.

She has been named in the PFA WSL Team of the Year in each of the last two seasons and remains a key member of the United States national team.

At 28, Fox is also entering a period where Arsenal can realistically expect several more seasons at the highest level.

With Sunday’s Chelsea clash approaching, attention will quickly return to results.

But securing Fox on a new long-term deal gives Arsenal one important piece of their squad planning already settled.
