Arsenal could return to the transfer market in January after deliberately refusing to force another attacking signing at the end of the summer window.
David Ornstein has explained that the Premier League champions were satisfied enough with their business to avoid making a late move simply for the sake of adding another player.
Speaking to TNT Sports about Arsenal’s summer transfer strategy, Ornstein said the club felt it was “better not to spend than to make a mistake” after missing out on several marquee attacking targets.
That leaves Andrea Berta with flexibility when the January window opens.
Arsenal keeping January options open
Arsenal strengthened heavily during the summer but stopped short of another blockbuster forward deal after pursuits of players including Vinicius Junior and Julian Alvarez failed to materialise.
ReadArsenal’s complete breakdown of Arsenal’s summer transfer business shows the scale of the wider rebuild already undertaken.
Any January move will still have to fit Arsenal’s financial structure.
UEFA’s financial sustainability regulations limit spending on player and coach wages, transfers and agent fees to 70% of club revenue, meaning major additions must be planned within the wider squad-cost calculation.
That does not mean Arsenal are currently in breach or immediately threatened by the limit.
Instead, it adds another reason why Berta is unlikely to chase expensive short-term solutions.
Arsenal are already monitoring longer-term opportunities, including Liverpool youngster Rio Ngumoha, with ReadArsenal covering their reported interest in the 18-year-old winger.
The January strategy therefore appears straightforward: stay alert, preserve financial flexibility and move only if an elite opportunity emerges.
