Arsenal handed Sunderland boost as Le Bris confirms double absence

Arsenal have been handed a boost before Saturday’s trip to Sunderland after Régis Le Bris confirmed two players will miss the Premier League clash.

Romaine Mundle and Habib Diarra both remain unavailable for the Black Cats ahead of Arsenal’s visit to the Stadium of Light.

The pair suffered injuries during Sunderland’s 1-0 victory over Fulham last month and neither will recover in time to face Mikel Arteta’s side.

Sunderland confirm double injury absence against Arsenal

Mundle faces the longer spell on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury.

Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s visit, Le Bris confirmed via Yahoo Sports that Sunderland hope the winger can return towards the end of the year.

Mundle has also undergone surgery and is expected to miss several months.

Diarra is recovering from a hamstring injury.

Le Bris said the midfielder is currently “in the middle of his recovery”, with his comeback expected after the next international break.

That removes two options from Sunderland’s squad against the Premier League champions.

Le Bris can still call upon significant attacking depth.

Malick Fofana made his first Sunderland start against Hull City in midweek after Arsenal previously walked away from a proposed move for the Belgium international.

Arsenal also have fitness questions of their own.

Jurriën Timber travelled to Italy this week but missed Arsenal’s matchday squad against Napoli as Arteta continued to manage his return from a groin problem.

Further Arsenal team news is expected before Saturday night’s match.

Supporters can find the full Sunderland vs Arsenal TV channel, live stream and kick-off details ahead of the 8pm BST fixture.
