Gabriel Jesus has revealed he received no warning from Arsenal before being removed from first-team training during the final days of his spell in north London.
The Brazilian completed an £8.6million move to Barcelona on deadline day after four years with Arsenal.
ReadArsenal reported on 27 August that Jesus had been left out of first-team training while his future was being resolved.
Jesus has now explained what happened from his perspective.
Speaking in an interview with SportyTV, the 29-year-old said he completed Arsenal’s entire pre-season programme normally despite already suspecting his opportunities would be limited.
But he claims nobody at the club had formally explained that his situation was about to change.
“No one told me anything.”
Jesus said he was then suddenly instructed to train away from the group, although he continued working to ensure he would be ready if another opportunity emerged.
Jesus lifts lid on final Arsenal days
The comments add important context to a situation Mikel Arteta addressed publicly before the transfer deadline.
At the time, Arteta indicated Arsenal were managing several individual situations because of the size of the squad.
Jesus had also fallen behind Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres in the centre-forward hierarchy.
Barcelona eventually provided an exit during the final week of the window.
Jesus has since explained that the move progressed extremely quickly once the opportunity became concrete and that he immediately wanted to join the Spanish champions.
His move formed part of a major reshaping of Arsenal’s attack.
Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and several other senior players also departed, while ReadArsenal’s complete Arsenal summer transfer guide details every incoming and outgoing deal.
Jesus had already revealed he accepted a significant wage reduction to complete the transfer, something covered in our previous look at the sacrifice behind his Arsenal exit.
The latest comments, however, provide a much clearer picture of how abruptly his Arsenal career ended.
He knew his role was shrinking.
What surprised him was how quickly he went from completing pre-season with Arteta’s squad to training away from it entirely.
