Napoli will be without Scott McTominay against Arsenal on Wednesday night after the midfielder underwent a successful heart procedure.
The former Manchester United player had an ablation procedure in Manchester on Tuesday and will now spend two weeks resting before returning to training.
Napoli confirmed the procedure was a complete success, ruling McTominay out of their Champions League opener at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Reuters reports the treatment was required to correct a mild, benign heart arrhythmia.
Scott McTominay ruled out against Arsenal
McTominay’s absence creates another midfield problem for Massimiliano Allegri.
Frank Anguissa has already been ruled out with an adductor injury, leaving Napoli significantly reduced in central areas against Mikel Arteta’s side.
Our updated Napoli team news against Arsenal tracks the complete availability picture ahead of kick-off.
McTominay became an important player for Napoli following his move from Manchester United and offers the physical presence and goals from midfield that Arsenal would otherwise have needed to manage.
His absence means greater responsibility is likely to fall on Kevin De Bruyne, Stanislav Lobotka and Billy Gilmour.
Italian reports expect all three to start after Allegri confirmed he has only four senior midfield options available.
For Arsenal, it removes one of Napoli’s most familiar Premier League threats before their first Champions League match of the season.
Arteta still has availability issues of his own, with William Saliba and Cristhian Mosquera unavailable, while Jurrien Timber has travelled after returning from injury.
The latest Arsenal predicted XI against Napoli will be refreshed again before Wednesday night’s 8pm BST kick-off.
