Martin Odegaard has scored Arsenal’s third goal against Coventry City as Mikel Arteta’s champions move into complete control at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal captain Ødegaard finished off another well-worked attack after Ben White provided the penetration down the right.

White overlapped Bukayo Saka before pulling the ball back into the Coventry penalty area, where an unmarked Ødegaard was waiting.

The Norwegian’s low effort was not struck cleanly, but goalkeeper Carl Rushworth could not keep it out as Arsenal moved 3-0 ahead.

The goal continues a dominant opening night for the Premier League champions.

Kai Havertz opened the scoring after being selected ahead of Viktor Gyokeres before Bukayo Saka doubled Arsenal’s advantage.

Ødegaard has now added the third.

Arteta named the Arsenal captain alongside Declan Rice and Myles Lewis-Skelly in his opening-day midfield, with the hosts increasingly dominating after the interval.

White also deserves significant credit for the goal.

The right-back recognised the space outside Saka and made an aggressive overlapping run before finding Ødegaard with his cut-back.

Coventry were unable to recover and Rushworth could not prevent the Arsenal captain’s effort from crossing the line.

Arsenal are now cruising towards three points in the opening game of their Premier League title defence.
