Fresh Reiss Nelson transfer twist emerges after new West Ham move

Arsenal could be handed another option over Reiss Nelson’s future after West Ham United began exploring a loan move for the winger.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth says the Hammers are assessing the conditions required to take the 26-year-old on a temporary deal.

Nelson was an unused substitute during Arsenal’s 3-2 defeat by Borussia Dortmund at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday as Mikel Arteta continued preparations for the new season.

Arsenal face fresh Reiss Nelson decision

Nelson has returned to Arsenal this summer after another season away from the club, but his route to regular football remains difficult.

He featured during pre-season and scored in the 3-0 win over MK Dons, although Arteta did not use him against Dortmund.

West Ham’s interest now gives Arsenal another decision to make before the transfer window closes.

Sheth reports that the London club are exploring the conditions of a loan rather than being in advanced talks over a deal.

Nelson had already attracted interest from elsewhere this summer. ReadArsenal reported last month that Benfica and Valencia were monitoring the academy graduate, who was open to considering a move abroad.

The latest approach therefore gives Arsenal another possible route for a player whose place in Arteta’s squad remains uncertain.

Nelson has entered the final year of his contract, which makes the structure of any loan particularly important from Arsenal’s point of view.

The Gunners must decide whether another temporary move is the right solution or whether a permanent departure would provide greater clarity over his future.

Arteta also confirmed after Sunday’s defeat that Arsenal remain open to strengthening their squad further before the new season begins.

ReadArsenal covered those comments on Sunday night.

Nelson could therefore be one of several players whose future is resolved before the window shuts.

West Ham’s interest is still at an early stage, but it has given Arsenal a fresh option as they continue to shape Arteta’s squad.
