Official: Arsenal announce £75m Bruno Guimaraes signing

Arsenal have officially announced the signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United, completing a major £75million move for the Brazil international.

The Premier League champions have finally unveiled the midfielder after several days of final formalities following an agreement between the two clubs.

Guimaraes had already completed his medical and signed his contract before Arsenal confirmed the transfer.

ReadArsenal reported on Friday that Guimaraes had signed his Arsenal contract and was waiting for the official announcement.

That announcement has now arrived.

Bruno Guimaraes Arsenal transfer officially completed

Arsenal agreed to pay Newcastle around £75m for their former captain after a lengthy pursuit accelerated during the final stages of pre-season.

Reuters previously confirmed the £75m agreement between Arsenal and Newcastle, with Guimaraes making clear that he wanted the move to north London.

Newcastle sporting director Ross Wilson subsequently admitted the club had not planned to sell one of their most important players.

Guimaraes had effectively informed Newcastle that he wanted to leave, forcing the club to reconsider its position despite initially hoping to retain its captain.

The 28-year-old leaves St James’ Park having made 195 appearances and scored 31 goals following his January 2022 arrival from Lyon.

He also captained Newcastle to their League Cup triumph in 2025.

Arsenal are now adding that Premier League experience to an already formidable midfield containing Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi and Martin Odegaard.

Mikel Arteta can use Guimaraes as a deeper midfielder or further forward, while his arrival should also provide greater freedom to manage Rice’s workload.

ReadArsenal has already analysed how Guimaraes could change Declan Rice’s role, with the Brazilian offering another aggressive ball-winner who is comfortable progressing possession under pressure.

The uncertainty surrounding his future is now over.

Guimaraes is officially an Arsenal player.
