Maitland-Niles set to return to full training next week

Arsenal youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles has been sidelined with an injury since the first day of the season but he is nearing a return to action sooner than expected.

As reported on Football London, the young full-back has been working hard to recover from the small fracture of his left fibula during the opening match of the Premier League season against Manchester City.

The youngster was playing at left-back and is clearly highly-rated by manager Unai Emery, who handed him a contract extension as soon as he was appointed as the manager.

The defender was initially ruled out for about eight weeks but the club confirmed that he is set to return to full training next week.

With Arsenal competing in all competitions this season, the return of the 21-year-old is a timely boost for the Gunners.

Maitland-Niles is not expected to be rushed back into action and Emery will want to ease him back into the first team squad.

The Gunners have a Carabao Cup clash with Blackpool at the end of the month and the youngster could be involved in that match.
