Arsenal set to include Debuchy in swap deal for Evans

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is hoping to secure the signature of West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans this month and is ready to include French full-back Mathieu Debuchy in the deal, according to a report on the Evening Standard.

The Gunners are trying to do everything possible to secure the signature of Evans and are facing stiff competition from Premier League leaders Manchester City.

The defender is valued at £25m by the Baggies but Wenger is hoping that the price will decrease with the inclusion of Debuchy in the deal.

The full-back has been riddled with injuries and is finding it difficult to break into the side now that he is fit. Debuchy wants a move away from the Emirates and has made is clear that he does not mind staying in the English top flight.

West Brom could be persuaded to negotiate with Arsenal because they will get money plus an experienced defender, whilst Manchester City are only offering money for Evans.

The Northern Irish defender is highly-rated and nearly moved away from the Hawthorns last summer but stayed at the club, who are now lingering in 19th place in the league.

Arsenal have had various defensive problems so far this season and Wenger is confident that Evans will help to settle his backline.
