Wenger reveals plan to attack Manchester City on Sunday

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hinted that his Arsenal side will attempt to frustrate in-form Manchester City by pressing them high up the pitch, according to a report on the Telegraph.

Wenger is set to instruct his side to attack table-topping City with pace and power and insists that his side will not just sit back to defend and hit Pep Guardiola’s side on the counter attack.

Wenger masterminded Arsenal’s victory over City in the FA Cup semi-final last season and will be hoping for a similar result on Sunday when the two clubs come head to head at the Etihad stadium.

Wenger said:

We will try to play our game – we will not hide, put it that way. We want to play and have the ball and create dangerous situations. Sometimes the best way to defend is to attack.

The strategy comes with high risk as Man City have managed to find the back of the net 35 times this season which is 16 times more than the Gunners, but it is a risk that Wenger believes has to be taken against such a strong opponent.

You have to accept the risk if you want to play football. You accept the gamble and the risk. It’s part of the game. You have to rate the risk. Is it a bigger risk only to defend if a team is very strong when they attack?

Wenger also revealed that Alexis Sanchez is fully focused on winning the game despite the rumours of a move to Manchester City.
