Gareth Southgate rubbishes Wenger’s Wilshere claim

England manager Gareth Southgate has dismissed Jack Wilshere’s England chances, after dropping the 25 year old from his 25 man squad to face Germany and Brazil.

Southgate rubbished Wilshere’s chances of making the England setup, saying “I don’t know how you get in an England squad if you’re not in the Arsenal team.”

This comes after Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said the midfielder was “ready” to return to the England setup, after last making an appearance for the National Team against Iceland at Euro 2016.

Wenger said that “He’s ready. I have the same problem. He’s competitive. In every single competition, he’s ready to play. I would encourage him to do it.

“I can only repeat what I personally think: I don’t know how you can keep a super-fit Jack out of the England squad.”

Wilshere has struggled to get back into the Arsenal team this season after getting back to full fitness. The 25 year old has been limited to appearances in the cup competitions against Doncaster, Norwich and Red Star Belgrade.

Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks has kept his place in the team, after impressing on his England debut against Lithuania.
