Inter Milan president confirms club want to sign Mesut Ozil

Premier League side Arsenal have been warned by Inter Milan president Erik Thohir that the Serie A side will attempt to sign German playmaker Mesut Ozil, according to a report on Calciomercato.

The Italian giants have been linked with a move for Ozil for several months and were considering an approach in the previous summer transfer window.

However, Thohir has now confirmed that Inter are still interested in securing the services of Ozil, whose contract at the Emirates stadium expires in 2018.

If Ozil does not sign a contract extension by the start of July 2018, then he will be available to sign for free.

The Inter president also didn’t rule out a January move for Ozil, with the San Siro club desperate to add an attacking midfielder to their squad.

He said: “He [Ozil] is definitely one of those players we are looking at but the last January signings of Podolski and Shaqiri proves winter signings can be fail to live up to expectations.”

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been desperate to get Ozil to agree to a new contract at the North London club but talks between the two parties have slowed down, with many predicting that the German will remain till the end of the season and then leave on a free transfer.
