Chris Willock has come through the Arsenal ranks to be on the fringes of the first-team squad over the last couple of seasons but it appears as if his time in North London is almost over.
According to Portuguese news outlet Record (h/t Inside Futbol), Benfica are set to win the race to sign Willock on a free transfer when his Arsenal contract expires at the end of the month.
The 19-year-old winger wants to kickstart his career and start playing first-team football elsewhere and Benfica are ready to offer him a role in their squad next season.
Arsenal are said to be interested in trimming their wage bill this summer and this could be a factor in their decision not to renew Willock’s contract.
Manchester City, Everton and Borussia Dortmund have all been linked with a move for the England U19 international in recent weeks but it appears as if the teenage forward will complete a move to the Liga NOS this summer.
