Arsenal face a battle to keep Mesut Ozil at the club for the long-term.
With the German attacking midfielder’s contract set to expire at the end of next season, the Gunners are doing all they can to tie him down to a new deal.
Should Ozil refuse to put pen-to-paper on improved terms, then Arsenal may be forced to sell him this summer or risk losing him on a free transfer next year.
Spanish publication Don Balon claim Barcelona having shortlisted Ozil as one of several potential replacements for club captain Andres Iniesta.
The 32-year-old is still a pivotal player for the Catalan club but as the years go by he’s finding it increasingly more difficult to feature every week for his boyhood club and Barcelona are drawing up long-term contingency plans.
Ozil spent three years at the Bernabeu with Real Madrid which would make any potential move to their La Liga rivals Barcelona very controversial.
