Arsenal are in talks with La Liga giants Atletico Madrid about the possible transfer of defender Jose Gimenez, according to a report by Adam Crafton of the Daily Mail.
The Uruguayan centre-half has a release clause of £56 million in his contract but Atleti are reportedly willing to accept £40 million, although it is thought that Arsenal are trying to get this price lowered even more.

The 21-year-old played 37 times for Atleti last season and the Spanish side are not in any rush to let him leave, so it’s unlikely that they will accept bids that don’t meet their asking price.
Arsenal are in the market for a new centre-back after losing both Per Mertesacker and Gabriel to injuries and it appears that they have decided to focus their attentions on Gimenez and not on Valencia’s Shkodran Mustafi, who was thought to be close to completing a move to North London.
