West Ham have decided to call off their pursuit of Arsenal and England midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as they wish to use the majority of their funds to bring in a top-class striker.
As reported by Darren Lewis of The Mirror, the Hammers were offered the chance to sign the 22-year-old but have decided that their money will be better off being put towards bringing in a forward.
Despite having a few strikers on the books, West Ham do not have anyone who regularly scores 20+ goals a season and as the top three sides in the Premier League table; Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City, have proven, having a top-class goalscorer is a key to success in the top flight.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has never quite been able to nail down a starting role for Arsenal, and despite his obvious talent, a combination of injury concerns and inconsistency seem to have convinced the Gunners to let him leave.
According to Lewis’ report, Marseille’s Michy Batshuayi and Liverpool’s Christian Benteke are the two men top of West Ham’s hit-list.
