Ozil and Sanchez stall on new long term contracts

In an article by The Times, it has been reported that Arsenal will struggle to tie Alexis Sanchez, and Mesut Ozil down to long-term contracts. Arsenal had opened talks with both parties last year, but have struggled to make any progress.

After what has been a disappointing season, Arsenal can ill afford to lose their two star players. While Alexis Sanchez has not replicated his form of last season, on his day, he is arguably one of the best wingers in the world. Mesut Ozil, however has had his best year in an Arsenal shirt, and leads the league in assists with 18.

Due to their importance to the club, both players will be offered five-year deals worth £160,000 a week. Due to the lack of silverware, it seems both players will need assurances of Arsenal’s future.

Arsenal’s failure to maintain a title challenge this year has been very alarming, something even Mesut Ozil voiced concerns over. It now seems that the club are fighting to remain in the top four. If Arsenal do retain a top four spot, the club will need to show ambition in the summer to keep both these star players.
