The Emirates Cup has been Arsenal’s summer showcase every year since it’s conception in 2007. Every year since, Arsenal fans have been eager to see the newest installment of the club.
Not only has the competition been a chance for Arsenal fans to see their new signings, but it has also been an opportunity to see some of the biggest clubs in Europe come to play, such as Juventus, Real Madrid and AC Milan.

This year, however, Arsenal have cancelled the annual pre-season tournament. As reported by Sky Sports, Arsenal have cancelled the event due to “an extended Euro 2016” and for “essential pitch reconstruction works”.
Following the final game of the season against Aston Villa, work will start on the pitch, and continue throughout the summer in order to be ready for the start of next season. Chief executive, Ivan Gazidis explained the decision via the club’s website.
We know how popular the Emirates Cup is with our fans here in the UK and around the world, so we are disappointed that we will not be hosting it this summer.
The shorter pre-season window and the need to relay our pitch has resulted in this decision being taken. We look forward to hosting the tournament in 2017.
Instead of playing the Emirates Cup, Arsenal will travel to America to play two matches in the United States in July against the MLS All-Stars in San Jose and Chivas de Guadalajara at the in Los Angeles.
