Arsenal have taken another step towards signing Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka by submitting an opening bid of around £24million to the German side, as per a report by the Mirror.

The Gunners have been scouting the Swiss international all season and with Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky all set to leave in the summer, plus the unreliability of Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere’s injufires, Arsene Wenger has seemingly looked to opt for new legs in the midfield – despite already bringing in Mohamed Elneny during the January transfer window.

Monchengladbach are hoping to get a fee of around £32millon for their star midfielder, so Arsenal might need to up their bid in order to get him, which they are more than likely willing to do due to the reported large amounts of money they have awaiting new stars.

Xhaka has played 32 games for Monchengladbach in all competitions this season picking up a whopping three red cards, as well as a few international games for Switzerland and the Gunners have reportedly had scouts watch him 30 times, which highlight how interested they are in potentially acquiring him.
