Wenger – It will be difficult to compete for three trophies

Deadline Day came and went and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was content not to spend any money. And perhaps for once, fans might not be as upset by this lack of spending.

After all, Arsenal are in position to win the FA Cup for the third year in a row. A competition they’ve won more than any other club. They are in third place in the Barclays Premier League, behind the impressive Leicester City and Manchester City. Both teams Arsenal have beaten this season.

Then there’s the UEFA Champions League, the one competition that has eluded Arsenal and Wenger. If that is to change, they have their work cut out for them because they will have to go through defending champions Barcelona.

Admitting his hopes of defeating the La Liga giants, as reported by the club’s official website, Wenger admitted that his side are confident they can do it.

It is [possible] because some clubs have done it.

Bayern have done it.

It is difficult to compete on three fronts. If you ask me is it possible to win on three fronts, it is a little bit different.

Exceptionally, it can happen. But you need not to have any bad injuries and to have a basis of a team who can repeat performances.

Maybe to be above everyone else, like Bayern were, like Barcelona were last year. It is difficult. Maybe in Spain even more because they play two legs in the cup.

Sometimes it is important to give [players] a breather, just to recharge, more mentally than physically. If you play game after game sometimes you are just not fresh enough mentally. Physically you can cope with it.

I think the team has a good mentality, a good level of humility, and a good togetherness.

Humility means that you question your performance every time, that you are ready to put a shift in. This team relies a lot on work rate.

Based on these comments, it is clear that Wenger was comfortable not bringing in any additional help knowing reinforcements are on their way via the current roster: Alexis Sanchez, Francis Coquelin, Mikel Arteta are back. Danny Welbeck is back in training and Santi Cazorla could be back sooner than expected, along with Jack Wilshere.
