Pires – Wenger is ‘the man’

Former Gunner and Premier League invincible Robert Pires has given his full backing to fellow Frenchman Arsene Wenger in being the right man to propel Arsenal to Premier League success once again. Both Wenger and Arsenal are aiming to build upon the success of ’98, ’02 and ’04 and claim a fourth league title since the Premier League began. Robert Pires played a huge part in the latter two titles and hopes the north London side repeat the success he once enjoyed.

He is the man, he is the manager. He knows everything about football, and has built something with Arsenal for a long, long time.

So the philosophy with Wenger is very good. Arsenal play very good. So yes, this is most important.”And of course I hope for Wenger that he will win the title at the end of this season.

The last time the north London side were champions of England, Pires was sporting the number seven shirt on the left side of midfield for the Gunners nearly twelve years ago. Despite the domestic drought, Pires insists Wenger is the best man to help the team achieve their ambitions.

The Gunners currently sit two points behind league leaders Leicester City, whom Arsenal played in their last title-winning season. The Invincible season led to relegation for Leicester, who twelve years on, are in pole position for the title.

When you look at the table, we [Arsenal] are in a good position.

Anything is possible this season because Arsenal have played well this season and are doing well.

Next Monday they have a big, big game when they host Manchester City. But Arsenal, yeah, they can win the title at the end of this season because; they have a very good team, and very good spirit.

They have good technique… Unfortunately we have a lot of players injured, but I think it’s not a problem because the squad is very big. I hope, and I wish, that Arsenal win the [Premier League] title.

Arsenal will be hoping to extend their recent run of form of four wins and a draw out of five against Manchester City, a team who will also be targeting the top spot come the end of the season.
