Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina is subject of an offer from Besiktas, according to Turkish newspaper outlet Fanatik. The second-string ‘keeper, who enjoyed some fine performances at the end of last season after he took over the starting job from Wojciech Szczesny, will likely want to be guaranteed to start in-goal for his new team, and Besiktas could offer him that, while the Gunners have the far-superior Petr Cech.

At this point, Ospina is something of a backup option to Besiktas, as they are on the brink of signing Victor Valdes, but if that falls through, then they will press hard for the Colombia international. Arsenal are unlikely to give him up easily as they sent Szczesny and Emiliano Martinez out on loan, so an Ospina transfer would leave manager Arsene Wenger with just one senior goalkeeper: new signing Petr Cech – and as great as Cech is, no team can function with just one first-team goalkeeper on their books, so keeping Ospina could be vital.

Ospina is a very good ‘keeper, who is capable of rivaling Petr Cech for playing time and will almost certainly see the field in cup matches.
The Columbian was one of the insertions into the team that Arsene Wenger made after the club’s slow start and poor showing at St. Mary’s against Southampton, a tough period for the club, who then went on to impress and collect more points than any other side in the second half of the season.

This is the second Arsenal player Besiktas have looked at this summer, as the club nicknamed the Black Eagles asked about Mesut Özil’s price to see if they could buy him. A transfer for Ospina would seem much more likely because of Özil’s immense talent and importance to the team, but Arsene Wenger will want to hold onto both players.
