Arsenal interested in Jakub Blaszczykowski

Borussia Dortmund and Poland winger Jakub Blaszczykowski is nearing an exit from the German giants, according to German news outlet Bild putting a host of Premier League clubs on notice. The Pole has not featured for BVB in the first three matches under new manager Thomas Tuchel, which has sparked the rumour that he is on the way out.

Manchester United, Liverpool, and Real Betis are the clubs said to rival the north London side for his signature, but Real Betis will likely struggle to meet his £1.8m yearly salary.

Arsenal are already loaded with talented wingers, so why would they go for Blaszczykowski? He is already 29-years-old and him getting in the team would prevent the development of younger players. He is a good player, though, and can get up and down the pitch quickly.

The Gunners could use a winger who could just sprint down the wing and cross the ball to Olivier Giroud if Arsene Wenger does not sign another striker to replace the Frenchman. Right-back Hector Bellerin is good at doing that, so both Blaszczykowski and the young Spaniard would be a bit redundant to have on the same wing with their styles of play going forward, especially since they are both right-footed and would have a hard time cutting inside on their left for a shot.

The Pole has been with Dortmund since 2007, and last season, he did not provide a goal or an assist in 13 Bundesliga matches he appeared in. He only started six games in the league in a Dortmund team that was in a bit of a crisis for most of the season, as they spent most of the campaign toward the bottom of the table until a winning run at the end of the year helped them qualify for Europa League.

The fact that he only played in 13 games is also concerning, as he had some injuries during last season, and Arsenal have enough injury prone players already.

This rumour does not make a ton of sense, but the Poland international would definitely add some flair and pace to the current Arsenal team.
