Mario Götze has placed a number of clubs, including Arsenal, on alert after a series of comments which express his unhappiness at German giants Bayern Munich, and also threw his future into uncertainty.
Götze told German broadcaster Sport1 that: “The last two years were definitely not very simple, we’ll see what happens” after competing with Bayern in the pre-season tournament the Audi Cup.
He added: “It will work out if Guardiola talks to me more often.
“I’m going to let everything come to me. Anything beyond that, we’ll see.”
This definitely gives the impression that Götze is not happy with his current situation at Bayern, and a move in the near future could be possible. The 23-year-old German possesses immense talent, and has already won a large amount of silverware in his short career. With former team Borussia Dortmund he was the key man in a squad that won the Bundesliga in the 2010/11 season, the league and cup double in 2011/12 and got to the Champions League final in 2013.
Added to this impressive list of accolades, is perhaps Götze’s greatest accomplishment when he won the World Cup with Germany in 2014, where the midfielder scored the winner in a close final against Argentina. Götze was the source of interest from a number of Europe’s biggest clubs, including the Gunners, in the summer of 2013 before being snapped up by Bayern for €37m. Despite the hefty fee, Götze has struggled to make an impact at Bayern and even more so to get into the first 11 in an already cramped Bayern midfield bursting with talent.
This, and a seemingly strained relationship with Bayern coach Pep Guardiola, has led to Götze becoming unsettled. There will be no shortage of suitors for Götze, whose incredible talents would be at welcome at any of Europe’s big clubs. Whether the Gunners are in for Götze really remains to be seen.
Arsenal currently have a wealth of attacking midfield at their disposal, and Götze’s international teammate Mesut Özil currently occupies the German’s favoured position at centre attacking midfield. A move for Götze from Arsenal makes little sense, with fans hoping for reinforcements in the form of another defensive midfielder and a top-level striker to fully challenge for the Premier League.
