Arsene Wenger is rumoured to be interested in making a move for £8.5m man Fernando Llorente, according to The Telegraph. The Spanish forward currently resides in Turin, playing for reigning Serie A champions Juventus, but has failed to convince the Italian side of his worth.
In 2013, Wenger signed Olivier Giroud from then French champions Montpellier for a similar fee, the only difference is that the Frenchman was a huge part of the success of his former club, while 30-year-old Llorente is past his prime and spent last season as a fringe player in what proved to be a hugely successful season for Juve.
Llorente has long been rumoured to be heading out of the Juventus Stadium, and with the club recently signing the younger and better Mario Mandzukic, that seems like the most likely outcome.
The Gunners already have a physical target man who can hold the ball up in Olivier Giroud, so signing an older, nearly identical player would surely be pointless. A better option than Llorente would be a quicker striker who can finish well, ideally the likes of Karim Benzema or Robert Lewandowski, both of whom would come at an astronomical cost.
