Higuain not for sale for under £67 million

Napoli have told Arsenal and any potential suitors who have been targeting their star striker Gonzalo Higuain, that he will not be sold for anything below his than his £67 million buy-out clause.

Higuain, who is currently on international duty with Argentina at the Copa America, has been linked with a move away from Serie A. Last month, coach Rafa Benitez left to manage Real Madrid. The striker  scored 18 goals in 31 league games, in Napoli’s failed Champions Legue bid.

Napoli will not budge unless interested clubs pay the buy-out clause in his current deal, which ends in 2018.

36 per cent of more than 12,000 voters said they want to see Higuain as Wenger’s next signing. According to Vaishali Bhardwaj of the Standard, a day later, the club then made this statement.

“Napoli are keen to make an official clarification based on some newspapers’ claims in articles about the potential transfer of Higuain,”

“The club stresses that the Argentine has an existing contract clause of €94,736,000 [£67 million].

“No bids below that figure will be accepted, those who want the player will have to match that valuation.”
