Arsenal defender Piero Hincapie has confirmed that injury prevented him from joining Ecuador for their current international fixtures.
The 24-year-old discussed his absence during a live broadcast, according to El Universo’s report published on 26 September.
Hincapie explained that physical problems had left him unavailable for selection. However, he did not identify the precise injury or say how long he expected to be sidelined.
His comments add the player’s own confirmation to an absence already covered in our Arsenal injury tracker.
Piero Hincapie injury return date remains unclear
The key question for Arsenal is whether Hincapie will be available when club football resumes against Leeds United on 10 October.
His explanation does not answer that question. It also does not establish that he has suffered a new setback rather than continuing to manage an existing problem.
Ecuadorian outlet StudioFutbol also reported his comments, noting that neither the extent of the issue nor a recovery timetable had been disclosed.
That distinction matters for Mikel Arteta’s defensive options, with William Saliba, Ben White and Cristhian Mosquera also featuring in Arsenal’s recent fitness updates.
Hincapie’s international absence is now explained, but a return date still requires a further update. His comments should not be treated as confirmation that he will miss the Leeds match.
