Arsenal injury news vs Brighton: Hincapie blow adds to concerns

Arsenal’s defensive injury problems have deepened ahead of Saturday’s Premier League trip to Brighton after Piero Hincapie missed the Carabao Cup win at Ipswich.

The summer signing was absent from the squad at Portman Road after suffering what has been reported as a muscular problem, leaving Mikel Arteta without five defensive options for the 4-2 victory.

Football.London reported that Hincapie missed the Ipswich game with a muscular injury despite taking part in training earlier in the week.

His fitness will now be monitored before Arsenal face Brighton on Saturday.

Ben White also missed Ipswich after suffering a groin problem during the 2-0 win at Sunderland.

ReadArsenal previously covered the fresh White injury concern before the cup tie, with the defender withdrawn at half-time on Wearside.

Cristhian Mosquera remains another concern. The centre-back has been sidelined by a muscular injury suffered at Aston Villa and did not recover in time to face Ipswich, despite Arteta previously suggesting he was approaching a return.

William Saliba is still expected to remain unavailable for an extended period because of his back problem.

There is better news regarding Jurrien Timber.

Arteta confirmed the Dutchman did not suffer a setback after being left out at Ipswich. The Arsenal boss explained that Timber had played more minutes than initially planned against Sunderland following five months out and therefore needed protecting.

That leaves Arsenal waiting anxiously for updates on Hincapie, White and Mosquera before travelling to Brighton.
