Arsenal begin their Carabao Cup campaign at Ipswich Town on Tuesday night — and there will be no extra time if the sides are level after 90 minutes.
The Gunners travel to Portman Road for their third-round tie with an 8pm BST kick-off.
Under the official Carabao Cup rules, matches in rounds one through five go straight to a penalty shootout when the scores are level at the end of normal time.
That means Mikel Arteta’s side cannot rely on an additional 30 minutes if a heavily rotated Arsenal team is unable to settle the game during regulation time.

Does Ipswich vs Arsenal go to extra time?
No.
If Ipswich and Arsenal are level after 90 minutes, the third-round tie will proceed immediately to penalties.
EFL competition rule 12.4 states that no extra time is played in rounds one, two, three, four or five, with the winner instead determined by kicks from the penalty mark.
The EFL’s current fixture list confirms Ipswich against Arsenal as a third-round match at 8pm on Tuesday, 15 September.
That potentially adds another consideration to Arteta’s team selection.

When is extra time used in the Carabao Cup?
The format changes towards the end of the competition.
Under the EFL rules, extra time can be required if the aggregate score is level after the second leg of a semi-final, or if the final itself is level after 90 minutes.
Therefore Tuesday’s possible outcomes are simple:
Ipswich win after 90 minutes — Ipswich progress.
Arsenal win after 90 minutes — Arsenal progress.
Level after 90 minutes — immediate penalty shootout.
There is no replay and no additional 30 minutes.
For Arteta, the objective will be to ensure Arsenal never need the shootout.
But if Ipswich can keep the tie level until full-time, Portman Road could be treated to penalties on Tuesday night.
