Napoli have been handed two fresh fitness concerns before facing Arsenal after Frank Anguissa and David Neres trained separately from the main group on Tuesday.
Massimiliano Allegri’s side host the Gunners at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Wednesday night in their opening Champions League league-phase fixture.
Scott McTominay is already unavailable, while Arsenal now have two further Napoli players to monitor before kick-off.
Anguissa and Neres train separately before Arsenal
Napoli confirmed in their final training update that Anguissa and Neres completed personalised sessions in the gym while the rest of the squad worked through their normal technical and tactical programme.
Local reports have subsequently described both players as doubts for Wednesday night, although there has been no confirmation that either will miss the match.
That distinction is important.
Anguissa played the full 90 minutes of Napoli’s 3-2 defeat against Inter on Saturday, while Neres featured for the final 28 minutes.
The pair therefore remain players Arsenal must prepare to face unless Allegri provides a more definitive update.
Their potential absence would nevertheless create a significant selection problem for Napoli.
Anguissa has started all three of Napoli’s Serie A matches this season and provides physicality alongside Stanislav Lobotka in midfield.
Neres offers Allegri another attacking option and had been included in UEFA’s initial predicted Napoli XI for the Arsenal match.
Our existing look at how Napoli could change their approach against Arsenal explains some of the tactical decisions already facing Allegri after successive defeats.
Scott McTominay remains out against Arsenal
McTominay will not face Arsenal after Napoli confirmed the former Manchester United midfielder requires medical treatment.
His absence was already a major blow before the fresh uncertainty surrounding Anguissa.
Football Italia reports that Alessandro Buongiorno, Luca Marianucci and Giovane are also unavailable, leaving Allegri with several absences to manage before the Champions League opener.
Kevin De Bruyne could consequently take on greater responsibility in midfield after beginning Napoli’s opening three Serie A matches on the bench.
Rasmus Hojlund is another familiar Premier League name likely to start in attack.
Napoli’s latest uncertainty comes at a useful time for Arsenal, although Mikel Arteta has availability questions of his own.
Our updated Arsenal injury news before Napoli covers the latest on Cristhian Mosquera, Jurrien Timber, Bruno Guimaraes and William Saliba.
Allegri is due to speak before the game on Tuesday, when further clarification over Anguissa and Neres should emerge.
Until then, both should be considered doubts rather than confirmed absentees.
