Arsenal player ratings vs Como: Raya 8, Lewis-Skelly 8 as £75m Guimaraes debuts

Arsenal player ratings vs Como after Mikel Arteta’s side drew 1-1 at the Emirates before winning the pre-arranged penalty shootout 4-3.

Myles Lewis-Skelly put Arsenal ahead after 33 minutes before Martin Baturina produced an excellent equaliser shortly before half-time.

Arsenal controlled much of the second period, finishing with 55 per cent possession, 14 shots and 41 touches inside the Como penalty area, but could not find a winner.

David Raya then became the hero in the shootout, saving penalties from Ivan Smolcic and Alvaro Morata before Christos Tzolis converted the decisive kick.

Arsenal player ratings vs Como

Kepa Arrizabalaga – 6

Played the opening 45 minutes. Had little chance with Baturina’s excellent equaliser and was otherwise relatively comfortable.

Theo Julienne – 6

Another useful opportunity for the youngster. Como provided him with a tougher examination than some of Arsenal’s earlier pre-season opponents.

Marli Salmon – 7

An encouraging display. Looked composed alongside Gabriel and stayed on until the closing minutes.

Gabriel Magalhaes – 7

Only played the first half but brought his usual authority to the back line. A useful 45 minutes before competitive football returns.

Piero Hincapie – 7

Continued his steady pre-season. Comfortable stepping forward and gave Arsenal an outlet from the left.

Myles Lewis-Skelly – 8

The standout starter. Reacted sharply to Como’s mistake and calmly finished to give Arsenal the lead. After all the discussion surrounding his future this week, this was an excellent response on the pitch.

Eberechi Eze – 7

Only given 32 minutes as Arteta managed workloads, but looked sharp between the lines and helped Arsenal establish early control.

Max Dowman – 6

Plenty of intent without finding the decisive moment. Another valuable senior outing for the youngster before making way for Bruno Guimaraes at half-time.

Ethan Nwaneri – 6

Could not quite reproduce the impact he made against Dortmund. Saw plenty of the ball but Como restricted the spaces where he is most dangerous.

Gabriel Martinelli – 8

One of Arsenal’s brightest attacking players. Direct whenever he received possession and consistently looked capable of opening Como up. FotMob rated him Arsenal’s highest starting performer at 7.6.

Gabriel Jesus – 6

Hit the post with the goal open after Como made an early mistake. Only played 32 minutes before Viktor Gyokeres replaced him.

Arsenal substitutes

Viktor Gyokeres – 6

Introduced earlier than expected but struggled to find clear shooting opportunities before being replaced on the hour.

Fabio Vieira – 6

Neat enough in possession during his half-hour appearance without producing the final ball Arsenal needed.

David Raya – 8

Arsenal’s shootout hero. Made good saves during the second half and then denied both Smolcic and Morata from the spot. A very strong return to action.

Cristhian Mosquera – 7

A composed second-half performance alongside a changing Arsenal defence.

Bruno Guimaraes – 6

A steady first appearance rather than a spectacular debut. Got 45 minutes into his legs and confidently converted his penalty in the shootout.

Martin Odegaard – 7

Added control after the interval and confidently dispatched Arsenal’s opening penalty.

Mikel Merino – 6

Kept Arsenal ticking after replacing Lewis-Skelly but struggled to create a clear opening against a compact Como defence.

Christos Tzolis – 7

Almost scored directly from a corner before stepping up to convert the penalty that sealed Arsenal’s 4-3 shootout victory.

Noni Madueke – 6

Forced a strong save with a powerful effort but hit the woodwork during the shootout. A lively cameo despite the missed penalty.

Riccardo Calafiori – 6

Solid during the closing half-hour and helped Arsenal maintain control.

Kai Havertz – 6

Had a late goal ruled out before converting confidently during the shootout.

Ben White – 7

Looked sharp after entering for the final half-hour. Encouraging minutes with the Community Shield approaching.

Josh Ogunnaike – N/A

Introduced too late to fairly rate.
